On March 18 when the outbreak of the Caronavirus was getting worse and the city was basically shutting down, I was on my way to radio interview on Hollywood blvd in the heart of Hollywood California, where it all began for me over 20 years ago, In my mind I was wondering how my family was going to financially survive this crisis. After the interview, I walked outside the studio and there was a window display with a manikin with a t-shirt that said “I survived the Coronavirus”. But that's not what caught my attention. It was the black gothic looking face mask the manikin was wearing. That’s when I had a million dollar idea. “The t-shirt is not going to save us, it’s the mask”. Thus GA Masks was conceived…
The thought was easy but the next steps were hard. I always say that I love a good challenge.
Over the 30 years in the Los Angeles fashion industry, I have built up many resources but at every turn they were either closed for the next month or out of stock of the materials I was looking for. My family was home sick with head colds (not the coronavirus) and I couldn’t sleep. I woke my sick husband Richard up at 2am and said “Honey, we need to go to work. He’s said “ My nose is stuffed up and I have a massive headache”.I replied, “ Kobe plays a game with a 102 temperature. Get up!, and let’s get to work... so here we are now making a variety of health and medical face masks and distributing masks like the n95 mask to meet the need during the tumultuous time.
Be safe and healthy
